    Story

Lyme disease is a growing problem across Europe and America but there is still not a reliable and thorough test available on NHS. Education and medical training surrounding the disease is still lacking with many patients left undiagnosed, misdiagnosed or undertreated leaving us lyme sufferes to look for private treatments abroad that cost hundred of thousands.

My story started by a tick bite in summer 2016 on my holidays in the Czech Republic. I got really unwell 2 weeks later with flu like symptoms and awful insomnia . But as I was heavily pregnant and it was extremely hot summer I was putting it down to pregnancy, virus and the weather. I got antibiotics for tooth infection another two weeks later and I got a bit better (not perfect though). Gave birth to my daughter and a month after that all my symptoms came back and worse, more and more have been appearing ever since. The nasty bacteria and co-infections that the tiny little tick passed on me attacked all the systems in my body. So I am left weak and in constant crippling pain that makes me cry very day, with freezing extremely sensitive hands and feet, almost incontinent, vision problems - everything is blurry, dizziness and balance problems, sensation problems - don't recognise what is cold or hot, ear ringing and buzzing, unable to focus, short term memory problems, can't recall words, awful insomnia, my arms and legs are twitching, tingling, buzzing. I have long lasting periods of muscle cramps and spasms, especially at night. I have constantly swollen glands, burning chest, sore throat, cold sores, herpes, etc. I have massive bruises all over my body. Also my liver function is not good and my bilirubin is high. I lost 20kgs in weight. I could go on and on but instead I am asking you for help. I keep smiling and pretending I am fine. I have to as I have two small children....just thinking about them makes me so emotional....I can't even collect my son from school without reminders, notes and Sat navigation as my memory is failing me. I can't cook for them, feed them, bath them....I need help with all of these things. Some days I can't be with them at all as the pain is too much to bare and the strong painkillers make me so drowsy and weak. But I still look ok, my disability can't be seen yet and I am very grateful for that.. But as I am deteriorating fast I need your help before it attacks one of my major organs and kills me like it has done to so many people. If I get better I promise to raise the same amount or more for charity LYME DISEASE ACTION that is dealing with Lyme disease, raises awareness on how to prevent tick bites, how to safely remove ticks and the importance of early treatment.

As NHS failed me in the acute stage and does not recognise the chronic form of the disease I already had to take a loan for £5000 which covered to travel and see a lyme disease specialist and tests that were needed to confirm it but now I need at least £10.000 to start intravenous antibiotic and additional support treatment.

Just shocked how heartless reporters and media can be. Pretend to offer a help, twist and turn the truth and say and write anything that will attract attention. Well done to you Alex give yourself a tap on your back. Hope the tick also gets you ;-)

I am 35 years old paediatric nurse/nanny. Until last year I was very active, happy and healthy. One tick bite has changed everything. Disabled me, ended up my carrier, left me incapable of looking after my children and keeps on slowly destroying me.
