Story

Open Kitchen Social Club was founded in 2014 as a social eating project in the centre of Sheffield. We provide food, peer support, and a place to meet for destitute asylum seekers, refugees, and those in food and social poverty.

Immediately before the current crisis, we were operating 3 days a week across 3 venues in Sheffield, each weekly event with a different focus for those in need, all providing a hot meal, advice and support. We support our activity through fundraising and catering for a wide range of activities, events and festivals in the city, including Migration Matters. Food is provided free of charge to those with no source of income and on a voluntary donations basis to anyone else.

The last few weeks have been very hectic as we have worked to identify need and capacity in our sector across the city. To reflect current circumstances we have shifted our social cafe model to a delivery system, and are delivering food parcels of cooked meals, fresh fruit and veg (courtesy of Beanies Wholefoods), and dried/tinned goods (thanks to the Foodhall Project) to our community and those in need all over Sheffield.
