Story

Roger is 5th Blacon ( Holy Trinity) scout groups new cub’s leader. He will be doing the Chester Half Marathon at the end of April all in aid of our groups first camp in over 2 years. Blacon its self is a very poor area with most families either on or below the poverty line. As a scout group we never turn children away who want to try and learn life skills whilst having fun, having said that most of our children are not able to take up the opportunity to experience the fun and sense of accomplishment and independance that going on a camping trip brings which is why the adult leaders are doing everything we can to raise money so that we can take all the cubs and scouts for a weekend camp and have the beavers join us for day activities. All our children are very excited at the prospect of camp and have already started to plan which activities they would like to try in order for them to earn the badges that they put so much hard work into earning. So please, please help us to give these children something fun to look forward to and take part in as they all deserve it.

A bit about Roger, he is a paraplegic veteran who was injured on active duty in Afghanistan. He got involved with his local scouting group after 3 of his son‘s had been active with the group for a number of years. He felt that he was able to give back to his community by being the cub leader after the previous one stepped down in september 2017. He feels that the children in his community all deserve the chance to take the opportunity to experience all the great things that scouting offers such as community pride, independance, pride in the selfs, confidence, team work and friendship all things that the army gave him. This is why he wants to do the Chester Half Marathon to raise as much as he can to go towards giving these children this chance which he hopes will encourage other children in the community to come and join in the fun.

Thank you from all the leaders at 5th Blacon (Holy Trinity) Scout Group Chester.
