    Story

    Russell’s story

My name is Russell Stones and I live in Wellington, Telford with my wife Vicky and our two teenage daughters.

We went on all inclusive family holiday holiday to Furteventura in May 2022. Within a couple of days of being there myself and my family were all sick

I vomited and wrenched so much that I ruptured my oesophagus I was flown by air ambulance to the Insular Hospital in Gran Canaria for a life threatening operation to repair it. Thanks to the excellent doctors, I survived the four hour operation and was fitted with a stoma bag.

Six weeks later I remain in the Intensive care unit in Gran Canaria. The hospital when I am fit enough to fly would like to fly me to the UK , to receive treamtent in UK

Due to a unforeseen clerical error through our holiday provider, we regrettably did not have any insurance, through no fault of our own.. The doctors say that I am now ready to be repatriated back to the U.K.

With no insurance this comes at a huge cost as I need an air ambulance, with an in flight doctor and a mobile respirator, with door to door medical assistance. Please help to reunite me with my family and give me the chance to continue recovering in the U.K. Any donation big or small would be hugely appreciated.

Russell came out of hospital last Friday , he is still unable to eat or drink whilst things heal internally . As a family we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved at Stoke who made it happen . We would also like to thank friends and family who visited Russell and supported us in different ways

Russell went to hospital on Monday for his operation where he remains. The operation went aswell as expected. He is now recovering and is expected to be in hospital for at least two weeks. He s in intensive care. For the first time in a year he has been able to take sips of drinks. The future remains uncertain in respect of Eating. We would like to thank all at Stoke Hospital for making this happen and we are incredibly grateful to the medical team who have work tirelessly to perform the operation

Thanks for your continued support unfortunately it’s the one year anniversary since Russell took ill. A three day holiday has resulted in a years worth of heartache. Who would ever think this could happen. Russell is still not eating, drinking or working. On the outside Russell looks well but on the inside of his body is still not fixed. We still await an operation with now three teams trying to figure out what to do . We hope it can happen soon
