Story
Recovery Approach
Refugees / Internally Displaced Children and Adults of Southern Cameroon.
The recovery fund raising will be focusing on youths girls and boys presently experiencing distress and trauma from present crisis in the Southern Cameroons. The two English speaking regions in Cameroon. Faced with the brutal armed forces of “La Republic du Cameroun” that have indulged in killing, raping of girls, looting and burning of homes, civilians are left with no choice than to flee into neighboring villages in Nigeria.
Most of the youths now are homeless, internally displaced, refugees in Nigeria and not receiving any form of formal or informal training. These teens are at high risk of losing hope detrimental to their mental and physical health.
Empowerment through the restoration of their dignity, hope, resilience, and well-being will be the objective of the recovery approach. Supporting UNHCR to provide for feeding, clothing, health and educating the youths would be our priority.
We understand that UNHRC has over stretched its resources to provide save accommodation and feeding for the refugees. However, with over 20.000 individuals to carter for we are expecting most to have barely a small portion of food to eat and in some cases, stay hunger for days. The reason why there must be additional funding from any subsidiary sources in collaboration with UNHCR.
Resources Needed:
1) Human. Volunteers of all works of life who sympathise with the present predicaments of the youths. However, those with experience in delivering health and social services will be the frontline volunteers.
2) Material/Finance: As needed.
Focus will be on training the vulnerable youths to any area of interest as Nursing Assistant, Health and social care, Pharmacy Assistant, Electricity, Dental Assistant and many more. The target will be to empower the youths to aspire to higher career and profession through an informal but a well-structured and efficient pathway.
Presently courses are accessible through online but with negotiation can be offered in formal or informal settings. Diploma provided will range from level 2-7 City and Guilds and other accredited bodies.
The recovery approach will also include children from ages less than 1 to 12 years old. For this group, books, games, toys, videos and other audio-visuals materials that are educative will be sent to them and guided by seniors and teachers who are rendered jobless by the crisis. Such will also serve as a source of hope for the volunteers that may be placed on a regular compensatory salary.
Another objective of this project is to get the youths self-employed, work in private agencies or be employed by individuals.
