Story

I'm going to attempt to stand-up paddle 92km across the width of Scotland - non-stop. The Great Glen Challenge starts in Fort William at 3am in the morning in the dark and finishes past Loch Ness at Inverness. The check point times are strict and the winds last year turned Loch Ness into a raging sea like creature where only 6 paddlers managed to finish. Fingers crossed the winds will be kind.
I'm raising money for Peer to Peer Mindfulness, an innovative social enterprise providing Free of Charge, high quality mindfulness courses in the Scottish Borders to children and adults who may not have the financial means to be able to obtain the well-being and mental health benefits mindfulness can provide.
Peer 2 Peer Mindfulness tutors give their time freely to help children and adults throughout the region create an enriched quality of life with more happiness, joy, harmony and peace of mind. Mindfulness achieves this by helping us to be aware of each present moment, instead of ruminating about our past or worrying about our future.
Increasing our capacity for mindfulness supports many attitudes that contribute to a satisfied life with numerous documented studies showing that it can bring calmness to our minds, increase our emotional resilience, and improve our emotional well-being.
Through learning mindfulness skills on the Free-of-Charge courses we provide, under-served individuals are empowered to gain self-awareness, confidence, self-regulation and emotional resilience, leading to an increased likelihood of sustained well-being and reduced stress.
Course participants are supported to develop an ability to cope and respond in more beneficial ways to stressful situations, which encourages healthy lifestyles, and helps build community and family cohesion.
Peer 2 Peer Mindfulness was set up to provide these Free-of-Charge courses when our founder, Brian Turnbull, whose own well-being and mental health had been transformed by participating in a mindfulness course, realised firstly how life could have been very different for him if he had not been able to finance the £180 course fee, and secondly, how many people don't have the means to finance a course for themselves.
Our mindfulness tutors give their time freely. By making a donation you will be contributing to the cost of course venues, our Website which publicises the courses and educates about mindfulness, along with the production costs of the course manuals and meditation audio files each participant receives.
Thank you very much for your generosity towards our cause. We really appreciate it.
