Weʼve raised £80 to provide humanitarian and financial aid to a number of educational projects and schools in Ghana.
- Funded on Thursday, 24th November 2016
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
African Adventures was started in 2009. They had a vision to provide consistent, long-term support to communities in Africa.
They now employ over 35 staff across four countries and deliver volunteer support and financial assistance to 21 projects. Through their work, a profound impact has been made on many of the lives of the 15,000+ children at their partner projects in Africa and indeed, the 3,500 volunteers who have travelled with them to date.
African Adventures provide developmental support, however, their projects are set up and run by the local people.
Volunteers participate in teaching assistance and vital building work and I have been lucky enough to be accepted along with 17 other students from my school, to visit Ghana in June 2017.
This is a fantastic opportunity to experience how children in Ghana are educated and witness the difficulties which they have to experience daily.
Schools in Ghana don't receive enough government funding to allow them to maintain their facilities, so this is where support needs to be focused. Many children do not go to school at an early age; instead they are forced to help their parents with agricultural duties.
Many classrooms are in a state of disrepair, with holes in the roofs, uneven floors and broken furniture, making for an environment which is not conducive to learning.
The aim is to assist with enhancing what the schools have to offer, in order to encourage more children to attend school earlier.
I will be working in the classrooms to educate the children and also assisting in building new, and repairing old, classrooms and other school facilities.
I will also learn about their cultures and have the opportunity to converse with the children, as it is very important for them to learn English, as it is often a necessary language for obtaining work.
In order to attend this trip I need to raise as much money as possible, so any donation is greatly appreciated.
