Story

Last August I rode the National 12 hour time trial, raising some money for Macmillan in the process; my beloved Godmother Ann had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Since then Ann has very sadly passed away. Fortunately I was able to say goodbye before I deployed on an operational tour to Iraq.

Ann was able to spend her final days at the Victoria Memorial Hospital in Welshpool. She was so pleased to make this her final resting place and the nursing staff looked after her with the utmost care and diligence. It‘s hard to know how to repay people for something that means so much to all of Ann’s family and loved ones, so this year my only option was to double it; National 24 hour time trial here I come!!!! To say this is a daunting prospect is an understatement; I am bricking it. Furthermore, a winter spent training in an ISO container in Iraq is possibly not the best preparation. However, in honour of Ann’s memory I will give it my all. The race takes place on 21/22 Jul 18.

The race is pretty much what it says on the tin; you have 24 hours to ride your bike as far as you can. I have an amazing support crew behind me to feed, water and yell me on. Hopefully I will make it to over 400 miles, but we shall see. All I know is that its going to be a long night and I very likely won‘t be able to walk for a few days afterwards!!

Any support that can be given to help me raise sone valuable funds for this very personal cause will mean the world to me, and like during the 12 hour, will do nothing but spur me on. I am certain that i will need it during the challenging night-time section!! Just £1 will help this valuable community hospital to continue to give to others, the care and support that they gave Ann.

I will also be riding in the memory of the late great Nelson Pratt, who inspired me to get involved in this cycling malarkey in the first place and also the legendary track cyclist Ivor Reid, who so sadly and suddenly passed away on 18 Jun 18. Please help me to honour these great people.

Thanks
