Story

On 11 April 2025, we lost one of the world’s truly remarkable people. After a short and unexpected battle with oesophageal cancer, Victoria Schofield passed away at just 32 years old—young, vibrant, and in full health until her diagnosis.

Vicky was the kind of person who left a mark on everyone she met. She embodied selflessness, bravery, kindness, and empathy in everything she did. Even in the limited time we had after her diagnosis, she made her wishes clear, and we are determined to honour them exactly as she hoped.

One of Vicky’s biggest fears was being forgotten. She wanted a place where the people who loved her—and even those who never met her—could pause, reflect, and feel connected to her spirit. Her chosen spot was along the Leeds–Bradford canal near her home in Apperley Bridge, a route she ran three to four times a week and a place that brought her peace.

We are incredibly grateful to have recently received permission from The Canal & River Trust to create this memorial. Now, we are able to carry out one of her explicit wishes: installing a bench and memorial plaque at her chosen place, along with ensuring its upkeep for years to come.

To make this possible, we are aiming to raise £4,000. This will cover the cost of the bench, the plaque, and ongoing maintenance so that Vicky’s memory has a lasting home.

Any donation—large or small—would mean the absolute world to Vicky, her family, and her friends. Thank you for helping us honour her life in the way she hoped for.
