Story
My name is Robin Glover and I have helped form the above community group. I live locally and have noticed that a lot of the existing equipment needs to be replaced within our local park.
The council has public money available for maintenance and upkeep of the local play and park equipment. Unfortunately, there is limited budget available for the large capital outlay required to replace and upgrade play park equipment. The park has good existing facilities such as, paddling pool, sand pit, small café/shop, sport pitches, bowling green and exercise areas. The park is the heart of the local community and it is only the equipment that is letting it down.
The council is limited to raising funds for capital park upgrades and amendments from the planning process surrounding the large developments that build in the local area.
It is the goal of the park community group to raise funds to support the council’s ambitions to upgrade and replace the park equipment in Victoria Park.
The group has been working with the council to prepare a preliminary budget plan for the park.
The preliminary proposal is to break down the park updates in to three phases.
1. Update the “Bidefort” area with a complete a new “centre peace” play equipment - £200 K
2. Update the toddler park again with a complete new age appropriate package of play equipment - £100 K
3. Update the steel park with a new set of play equipment aimed at the older children.
4. Provisions to be made for the installation of equipment for people with additional needs.
5. Consideration for the installation of extra gym equipment.
