Story

In June 2023, my wife Ash received a diagnosis: triple-negative breast cancer. Her world and those around her was instantly turned upside down, replaced by a whirlwind of appointments, tests and scans. Six months of chemotherapy was prescribed by her oncologist and it all took place at the Viking Day Unit in QEQM, Margate.

During this time I saw first-hand how the Viking Day Unit is far more than just a medical facility. All of the team's patience, kindness and dedication are extraordinary. They each go above and beyond, organising events for patients (and family) and working hard to create a supportive and positive atmosphere. It's a relative oasis for anxious patients, offering a sense of calm when life may otherwise feel chaotic.

All of this great work can't be underestimated and they definitely deserve recognition for the difference they make. We're aiming to raise money to maintain and enhance the unit's facilities, ensuring it remains a sanctuary for all current and future cancer patients.

With the sobering statistic that 1 in 2 of us may face cancer in our lifetimes, supporting places like the Viking Day Unit is crucial.

On the 30th March, at 5.30pm we are playing a charity football game to raise some funds for this great facility. Clifton Villa FC is a team made up of friends from the local area. We are playing Sands United FC who have kindly agreed to play and support.

Sands United provide a unique way for child bereaved men to come together through a shared love of sport, to find a support network, and feel at ease talking about their grief when they’re ready.

A big thanks to Margate FC for allowing us to use the football pitch.

Any and all donations are deeply appreciated.
