Building Withersfield’s First Safe and Accessible Playground

Withersfield is growing. In recent years, more young families have chosen to make this village their home — drawn by its community spirit, rural setting, and peaceful way of life. Yet despite this growth, one essential resource has never existed here: a safe, accessible playground for our children.

For generations, families in Withersfield have had no dedicated place for children to play, socialise, or develop the physical and social skills that outdoor play supports. Parents must travel to neighbouring villages simply to access basic play equipment — a challenge made even harder for families without access to a car. For some, this means their children simply miss out.

As our village welcomes more young families, including children with additional needs, the absence of a safe and inclusive play space has become increasingly significant. A playground is not a luxury; it is a vital part of a healthy, thriving community. It provides children with somewhere safe to explore, exercise, and build confidence — and gives parents and carers a reliable place to gather and support one another.

We are fundraising to create Withersfield’s first-ever playground: a modern, secure, and fully accessible space designed for all children, regardless of age or ability. The proposed design includes safety-approved equipment, accessible surfacing, and inclusive features to ensure that every child — including those with mobility or sensory needs — can play safely.

This is a project that will strengthen the heart of our village for years to come. But we cannot achieve it without support.
