Story
Waffle is a weekly, pay-what-you-can restaurant in Hull. And it's so much more than that!
We're a growing family of volunteers, with a big heart and even bigger dreams. If you can chip in now, or on a regular basis (!), you'll help Waffle keep growing long into the future.
We want to keep bringing people together.
Keep creating a space for conversation, creativity and connection.
Keep treating people to delicious food in a beautiful atmosphere, for a price they can actually afford.
All in service to our Hull community, who deserve the best.
A bit more about Waffle...
It's entirely volunteer-run, from the cooks to the accountant to the radio DJs who broadcast live from the restaurant.
The idea came out of a series of neighbourhood assemblies - public meetings where people shared their biggest worries and challenges, as well as their skills and ideas, and then decided to work together to make something happen.
Each week is a different menu, using as much donated or surplus ingredients as possible, and people are invited to pay what they can.
As well as creating a beautiful, slightly chaotic community space for people to eat and play together, we're also deliberate about doing our part to build an alternative economy - based on solidarity, care and fairness rather than profit.
With the price of food and the cost of living always rising, our communities divided and isolated, and our natural world suffering - Waffle is just one of the many ways we can rise to the challenge of this moment, and make the world we want.
If you can give a little now, or on a monthly basis, it'll be the best money you ever spent.
Want to pitch in in other ways? Come along and say hello, and roll up your sleeves!
Love,
the Waffle team
