Story
Starting with the London to Brighton charity fundraising cycle ride on Sunday 14th September, and other on-going activities, I'm aiming to raise £2,000 for the Nakuru Environmental and Cultural Trust (NECT) which works with young people and adults in Kenya and the UK to:
* better understand and care for our physical environment
* learn more about each other, and our social and cultural histories, through using the arts, culture and offering hosptiality

NECT works in Mbaruk, Kenya with the young people of Mbaruk and their community. Mbaruk is 15km east of Nakuru, in the Rift Valley, whose population expanded significantly following the 1992 and 2007 ethnic clashes when many internally displaced people were settled there. It is now transitioning from semi-rural to peri urban as Nakuru continues to expand.
NECT’s strategic focus from 2023 was chosen with young people in Mbaruk to express a shared vision to work towards development and empowerment in the community, through using microcredit and supporting micro-businesses that empower the local community in a sustainable way.
NECT also partners with the Mbaruk Field Study Centre, which engages with Kenya's youth (both in Kenya and the UK), by exploring the wealth of Kenya's cultural traditions and building pride in their tribal and national heritage. Mbaruk Art House is the home of 'Kenya's Story in 100 Objects' where there is a gallery, a library and a community empowerment centre that provides exciting opportunities for visits and exchanges.
Visit us to experience a special Kenyan welcome and be a part of our story: '...come as a stranger and leave as a friend'!
