Story

Hello! On September 14th, 12 members of Wales University Royal Naval Unit will be competing in the annual Canalathon. Split into 3 teams they'll be undertaking a 35 mile charity event, involving a 6 mile canoe, 22 mile cycle and 7 mile run/walk in less than 12 hours, no easy feat! Although the event is described as a challenge not a race, I'm sure some of the famous Wales URNU competitive spirit will kick in and make it a day to be remembered!

Very sadly over summer one of our members, Honorary Midshipman Rhys Shearan passed away and in his honour will be raising money for Young Minds. Rhys was a lively chap, who will always be remembered for making others laugh and putting a smile on the faces of everyone he was around. Young Minds is the UK's leading charity fighting for children's and young people's mental health. This is a fantastic organisation that aims to make sure young people get the best possible mental health support by "leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges."

Our other charity is Latch, Welsh Children's Cancer Charity. Latch gives support to children and families treated by the oncology unit at the Children's Hospital for Wales. Not only providing a social work service giving practical, emotional and financial support they also offer home from home accommodation helping families to remain comfortable and close to their children while at the Hospital.
