Story

Our world was shattered on the 14th April 2023 when I lost my amazing, beautiful dad Mick Richardson to aggressive, metastatic bowel cancer.

Dad had his fair share of battles. He had a lung transplant thirty years ago due to a rare autoimmune disease. Thanks to a lovely young lady called Nicola and the decision of her brave family he received the gift of life. Just a few years later my sister was born. In the past few years battled sepsis as well as heart and kidney issues. Throughout he was always positive, always smiling and always putting others first.

Dad was and still remains as inspiration. His outlook on life was just amazing. I cannot help but be so angry that the most intelligent, brave and kind man has been taken from us, far too soon. My dad was a hero, he now lives on as a legend. I hope to continue his legacy.

During the last weeks of his life he was cared for beautifully on Ward 7 at the Freeman Hospital. The team were fantastic, not only caring for dad but the whole family too. They have a special place within our hearts. We managed to raise £600 for Ward 7 at dad's Celebration of Life. We aim to at least raise another £1000 during Mick's Walk.

The Walk - Saturday 22nd July

Mick's Walk will begin at Ryton Rugby Club at 1pm. Fancy dress encouraged - it is all about laughing! I know dad will be with us in spirit and laughing and being around people was his favourite thing to do! The walk will end at dad's favourite pub The Boathouse in Wylam. The walk will be seven miles - seven miles for Ward 7. Some people may not manage the walk or would rather stay at the pub, we welcome those people to hold the fort at The Boathouse, in costume of course. Dad was gregarious, he loved being surrounded by his family and friends. I want us all to raise our glass for him and support the wonderful team who cared for him so beautifully.

The full walk will take around 4 hours, with an ETA of 5pm at the Boat House.
