Walk With Us 2023.
On Friday 9th June 2023, Our Forefathers and our team of community volunteers invite you to walk with us.
This venture is to educate and support families after a separation. To help raise funds and awareness, encourage co-parenting and the positive effects having both parents if appropriate in a child's life. Sadly, children are often subjected to some kind of abuse mentally, direct or indirectly during or after a breakdown.
Be the voice, bridge the gap and take action.
Sadly, divorce and separation is increasingly becoming part of life for families across the United Kingdom. It is crucial that the correct support services are put in place to assist families where support services are making systematic failures, denying parents and children of their human rights. This adversely affects the family unit as a whole and therefore the social fabrication of our society.
Funds raised will be reinvested into the organisation, allowing us to continue our family events and activities in the community. Whilst supporting both parents where possible we will also sign post families to relevant services.
Our Forefathers will act as a McKenzie friend specialising in family law. Assisting and supporting those who attend court that do not have legal representation and are litigant in person.
What is a McKenzie friend?
A McKenzie friend is a person who attends a court hearing as a non-professional helper or adviser to a litigant who does not have legal representation in family court. Clients must know what their options are, including McKenzie friends, mediation, barristers, and solicitors. This gives fathers a voice and allows them to take positive action towards improving their lives and their mental health.
Mental health continues to be a taboo subject for many men.
Societal and cultural norms of gender conformity to be 'strong' and 'tough' can put pressure on men making it difficult to admit they are struggling with their mental health and to seek help.
We will provide structured peer support to help fathers maintain and rebuild relationships with their children and other family members. All to often services fail to acknowledge or support fathers and their families when a relationship breakdown leads to separation.
It is well recognised that there are currently many support services for mothers following relationship breakdowns, which we view as positive, but in an equal society, it is important that fathers and mothers are treated equally and that sufficient support is also provided to fathers.
We will be educating families on the effects of mental abuse, false allegations, parental alienation and how it effects children and their families.
As there is no legal aid available in family law only, where possible, we will provide quality cost effective support for fathers to help them manage the financial burden.
One thing can be said, no one parent can say they love their children more than the other, however, if we love and share our children together our children will flourish.
