Story
We wish to convert a local verge in St Aubyns to wildflowers so that we can have a beautiful display this year and attract bees and butterflies. Not only would it benefit pollinators but it would help to lift peoples spirits in Fishersgate which is an industrial and unloved part of town.
My mum Maureen is going to be doing a "Captain Moore(reen)" style fundraiser for us. She will be doing a sponsored "walk for wildflowers" using her zimmer around the block - for 10 days (in fine weather). It takes her 50 minutes to complete a 500m lap. She usually doesn't walk and uses a scooter, each lap is more than Mum has walked in a decade.
We are hoping to raise £500 to cover the cost of the wildflower turf and signage for St Aubyns, plus £500 to build a community vegetable garden, so if you can sponsor her a few pounds that would be fantastic. Any funds left over will be used for sowing and promoting wildflowers in the Fishersgate community. We will be updating her progress on our Eastbrook Community Gardeners and our St Aubyns Garden Facebook pages. For more information about our work click here

4 years agoHi Everyone, We are expecting the wildflower turf on Friday 16th April and a small group of volunteers will be laying it at St Aubyns from 12-230pm. So if you are around pop by and say hello to us. We are excited to see how it will turn out. We are trying a mix of different wildflowers. Your donation has paid for purple haze (photo below) and super pollinator mixes. The next challenge now will be keeping it watered over spring and summer so that the roots can become strong! Warmest wishes Maureen, Carol and the Eastbrook Community Gardeners
