Story

Fibro Active is a support group for people with Fibromyagia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME and their carers. We have brought members out of isolation and created a wonderful supportive community. We run a bespoke programme that encourages members to keep moving, manage their symptoms and gain valuable emotional support.

Each year we hold our Walking to Awareness Campaign for 6 weeks leading up to International Awareness Day on May 12th. This is also Florence Nightingales birthday. Florence contracted Crimean Fever while she was out in Crimea nursing the soldiers during the war. Sadly, she never fully recovered and she spent her time from the age of 50 to when she passed away at 90 years old mainly confined to her bed with what we can assume from her diaries that she had fibro/CFS.

Walking is very difficult for mainy sufferers as they battle wide spread roaming pain and chronic fatue. Furthermore our muscles become stiff and weak. Sleeplessness exaserbates the symptoms and Fibro Fog and IBS can become worse. We are on a cycle of stress - pain - fatigue. There is no cause or cure, we can only manage our symptoms by staying within our daily limitations, pacing and keeping our muscles healthy with regualr mind body classes such as tai chi, qigong or yoga and some people benefit from accupuncture.

So we are asking sufferers to upload their weekly steps to our facebook page and anyone else who wishes to join in. We have 6 weeks to reach our target of 2362 miles and for the 2nd year we are opening the event up as a sponsored event. Please sponsor our members to reach our target and join in yourself and ask others to sponsor you too. Thank you)).
