Story

Here on the children’s ward at Royal Preston Hospital is a small parents room with basic amenities. Our parents using this space have children who can be very poorly and therefore this room gives parents them an invaluable space to store and cook a quick meal or grab a snack, meaning they don’t need to leave their children for too long going off the ward.

Currently we have no freezer for the parents kitchen and a small old Fridge that is in need of updating.

We as nurses’ care about the family around our patients as much as the children who we look after.

We would love to raise enough for a large fridge freezer which as a team we will continue fund raising to keep stocked with meals, snacks, drinks and other small essentials to keep parents healthy and fed to enable them to use all the energy on helping their children get better. We also aim to have every day necessities and toiletries for parents to take and use if they have not been able to bring or if they are struggling financially and too embarrassed to say.

As we all know covid 19 has had a big impact on everyone and due to this pandemic we ask parents to not leave the ward into the main hospital as much as possible to avoid transmission to our patients. This sometime means parents can not get food and necessities from the shop or bought in for them and as team who believe in family centred care we want to make an already upsetting time for children and families easier in anyway we can.
