Story
Hi, we are the Sports Council from Wardle Academy High School. We have collectively as a team been thinking of ways we can help our local community during the Covid pandemic. We came up with the idea of running the 100km challenge between all of us from now until the end of term as a way to fundraise for our chosen charity (care homes), which is very close to our hearts.
We decided on care homes for two reasons; firstly because one of the joint chairs of the council has close links with Waterside Lodge Care Home in Todmorden, her Grandma is currently a resident there and they have been amazing at providing the much needed and important role of a second family when no visitors are allowed. This leads on to our second reason. The home only has one device for the residents to use, we would like to change this, and hopefully raise enough money so that we can purchase an ipad so that more residents have access to quality and needed visual time with family and friends, for this home and two other local care homes.
There are 9 members of the council, each member will be set the target of running 10km each, (the extra 10km will be made up from everyone) for each km the Sports Council run we are hoping the PE department staff will match.
Please help us smash our target, and help the most vunerable, our elderly, receive what they most deserve, a way of spending time with family. Its a luxury they don’t have at the minute, so this is our way, the Wardle Way, of helping them.
