For so many of the elderly, loneliness is something that comes very much to the fore at Christmas time. On Christmas Day, some will have no one to share any happiness with, have a visit, or even a conversation over the phone.
Some of these wonderful people, who have given so much over the course of their lives, and still could with their bountiful spirit, won't even have a meal that reflects the special day that Christmas is.
With the personal experience I am now having with a loved one who now
suffers from Dementia, I have become more acutely aware of some of the issues faced by sufferers and their families, and indeed the elderly as a whole.
So I am fundraising to put on an event this Christmas Day, to provide a
meal, some festive cheer and hopefully a small present, should the
donations allow, for between 80 - 100 of the elderly who otherwise would have very little this Christmas.
I am committing to losing 28lbs in 12 weeks, as my own personal sacrifice, apart from actually organising and running the event on Christmas Day in conjunction with Miss Mardle's Companions, who look after so many of the very people this event is for.
Please help me to make this event a roaring success by bringing happiness to as many of the elderly as we can.
