This summer Aina and I will be volunteering in an orphanage, Jodie O'Shea House, in Bali.

In the aftermath of the Bali bombing on October 12th 2002, Jodie O'Shea House was established by those who wanted to contribute in some way to create a future of opportunities for those who had very little.

The orphanage currently gives 92 children, ranging in ages from 6 months to 19 years, a chance to have a life they have never known - a healthy diet, an education, being nurtured and cared for and having the freedom to simply be children. Some of the children are from Sumba, a very poor and arid island to the east of Bali and some are from Bali or other Indonesian islands.

We hope to help the children who need extra after-school tuition, especially when it comes to English, as well as getting involved in cooking, cleaning, art, sports and any other activities that the kids do.

Part of our application involves raising some money for the orphanage. All of this money will be sent to the orphanage as we will cover all of our expenses ourselves.

Tras el atentado de Bali del 12 de octubre de 2002, la Casa Jodie O'Shea fue creada por aquellos que querían contribuir de alguna manera a crear un futuro de oportunidades para familias y niños que tenían muy pocos recursos.

En la actualidad, el orfanato ofrece a 92 niños, entre 6 meses y 19 años la oportunidad de tener una vida que nunca han conocido: una dieta saludable, una educación, un cuidado y tener la libertad de ser simplemente niños.

Algunos de los niños proceden de Sumba, una isla muy pobre y árida al este de Bali, y otros de Bali u otras islas de Indonesia..

Esperamos ayudar a los niños que necesitan clases extra después de la escuela, especialmente cuando se trata de Inglés, así como participar en actividades de cocina, limpieza, arte, deportes y cualquier otra actividad que los niños hacen allí.
