“No Monster Incinerator in Washington“
is a community group brought together
to oppose the application by developers
Rolton Kilbride to build a waste incinerator, located at the Hillthorn Farm site in Washington. Rolton Kilbride have confirmed that they intend to burn plastic at the Washington plant which would have a 215,000tonne capacity. Burning plastic is not a form of
renewable energy and goes against
recent government campaigns and
initiatives with respect to CO2 emissions
and environmental policies. This site would produce quarter of a million
tonnes of CO2 each year, amounting to
some 8 million tonnes over the lifetime
of the facility. Rolton Kilbride have failed
to provide evidence of a similar sized site using the same technology that is in
existence today. Far from being proven,
this type of technology has been shown
not to work.
Rolton Kilbride have failed to raise the
awareness of Residents in the
surrounding areas of Washington and
Sunderland: -
• The proposed plant would have a 57
meter (187feet) chimney stack which,
with its plume, would be visible from a
long distance and a major distraction to all.
• HGVs bringing waste to the site and taking ash away, some of it toxic, would
lead to a substantial increase in traffic
on already congested roads. • It would be very close to schools and residential
areas, any problems from pollution or a
malfunction at the Plant site could have severe health consequences
for residents. Rolton Kilbride have failed in their proposed planning applications for similar proposed sites at Swindon and Northampton.

Stop this monster in our area! It's unhealthy towards health, will add to already existing congestion issues and will destroy our road infrastructure!!

Carlton West

I am a resident of Concord in Washington and am really worried about the incinerator being proposed. I believe it will not only effect the health of Washington residents but those of Boldon and Sunderland too due to wind direction. I hope we come together to fight this monster.
