I've raised £1000 to campaign against a Gasification Plant being built in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

“No Monster Incinerator in Washington“
is a community group brought together
to oppose the application by developers
Rolton Kilbride to build a waste incinerator, located at the Hillthorn Farm site in Washington. Rolton Kilbride have confirmed that they intend to burn plastic at the Washington plant which would have a 215,000tonne capacity. Burning plastic is not a form of
renewable energy and goes against
recent government campaigns and
initiatives with respect to CO2 emissions
and environmental policies. This site would produce quarter of a million
tonnes of CO2 each year, amounting to
some 8 million tonnes over the lifetime
of the facility. Rolton Kilbride have failed
to provide evidence of a similar sized site using the same technology that is in
existence today. Far from being proven,
this type of technology has been shown
not to work. http://ukwin.org.uk/fail
Rolton Kilbride have failed to raise the
awareness of Residents in the
surrounding areas of Washington and
Sunderland: -
• The proposed plant would have a 57
meter (187feet) chimney stack which,
with its plume, would be visible from a
long distance and a major distraction to all.
• HGVs bringing waste to the site and taking ash away, some of it toxic, would
lead to a substantial increase in traffic
on already congested roads. • It would be very close to schools and residential
areas, any problems from pollution or a
malfunction at the Plant site could have severe health consequences
for residents. Rolton Kilbride have failed in their proposed planning applications for similar proposed sites at Swindon and Northampton.
