    Story

I have decided to take part in a 20km Stand Up Paddle Board challenge along the River Thames to help raise money to deliver surf therapy in Liberia.

The aftermath of a brutal civil war and a devastating Ebola epidemic has left Liberia with the enormous task of rebuilding. Financial support from politicians and international donors has helped to kick-start the repair process but there still lies a long road ahead. One of the biggest issues is engaging youth; a youth who in their short lifetime have experienced such levels of trauma, it is unimaginable for most to understand.

In February 2017, W4C began piloting a surf therapy programme in the coastal town of Harper. With the help of local partners, the programme has made a successful start with approximately 70 children, between the ages of 9 to 20, coming to the beach after school, Monday - Thursday. With the revered 'Mr Ross' at the helm, the W4C team in Harper are doing amazing work using surf therapy to teach these local kids the skills they need to process stress, regulate behaviour and build trusting relationships.

Help us continue these efforts by establishing a permanent programme in Harper. Taking part in our Thames SUP challenge and raising funds will enable us to train more coaches, provide food, buy equipment, provide transport and ultimately increase the number of children who can benefit from surf therapy!
