Story

Help us raise £10,000 to support the Wear It Out programme of community and textile renewal.

The clothes we wear are more than just fabric, they are a reflections of our values and creativity! But today people are buying more clothes than ever before—and discarding them just as quickly. This isn’t good.

Did you know It takes 2,000 gallons of water to produce a single pair of jeans? Help us ‘Turn Off The Tap’ and ‘Jazz Up Those Jeans’!

How can we slow down this Fast Fashion juggernaut, with its HUGE environmental cost?

In Abingdon we are challenging this trend head-on. Help us raise £10,000 to support the Wear It Out programme , a vibrant community initiative dedicated to textile renewal and sustainable living.

Wear It Out is an ambitious programme of free classes to empower people to repair and repurpose their wardrobe, get involved in clothes swaps, re-style preloved clothes and home furnishings. Diverse workshops ranging from hand stitching and knitting, to using sewing machines have been successfully rolled out. And attendance numbers are growing amongst young and old alike!

We need your help to continue growing this movement through providing venues, material and expert teachers. Your support will fuel an educational and inclusive approach that nurtures creativity and community.

Anyone can express their style through their own creativity. By developing our skills and imagination, our clothes can live longer…and be loved again!” Michelle Charlesworth, founder of Wear It Out

Wear It Out participants have saved money, reduced their environmental footprint whilst gaining confidence and having fun. The classes and socials have generated a sense of community, and broken down social barriers and isolation in Abingdon. We continue to reach out to those who would benefit most.

Join us in making a lasting impact. Together we can slow down fast fashion's harmful tide - and inspire others to do the same. Support Wear It Out today and be part of a movement where style meets sustainability.

"Wear it Out" is a One Planet Abingdon Climate Emergency Centre project
