    Story

People who know us well will know that over the last 10 years we have worked tirelessly to renovate our derelict barn into a habitable home. Both myself and my partner Angus, are capable, creative, positive, energetic people. We have 4 sons, now aged between 15 and 24 years old. Our eldest son has Autism and learning disabilities. For 6.5 miserable years we were stranded in two mobile homes with our barn half finished, completely inhabitable; no windows or doors, no staircase, no plaster on the walls and no money to proceed. Slowly, every weekend and evening, we worked on the barn until finally, 4.5 years ago, we were able to live in two rooms, but we kept going. Now we live in the whole building. This December it will have been 11 years of very hard work with sacrifices unimaginable. 4 years ago Angus damaged his back at work. After emergency surgery and fighting an infection, he started to recover. With this new challenge under control and our eldest off to residential college, we invited my parents to move into the barn to help us, they wanted countryside life and space to be creative. 2 years ago I decided to retrain as a Bowen Therapist, knowing this would support Angus' ongoing spinal weakness, as well as possibly support our children's health and wellbeing. I had no idea I would feel as passionate as I do about Bowen Therapy at the outset of the training.

We want to find ways to make this beautiful place we call Home work. Together, with our neighbours, we want to open it up to the community. There are so many ideas being banded around and with all this in mind, earlier this year we took the brave decision to renovate the block barn next door to create a versatile space. The more we talked about it the more we realised this space could be so useful for so many things if only we could make it habitable.

Our ideas in a nutshell :-

Upstairs - Bowen Therapy Clinic ( possibly other therapies too ).

Down stairs - Gallery space, Space for workshops/ rehearsals, both Dance and Art, A Community meeting space, Space for courses, Small parties and a Space for communal eating tied in with our plan to develop a camping site in the field. Personally it could afford us; Additional sleeping space for family and friends at critical times of year, as well as maybe affordable 'Airbnb' type stay overs in the future. In an emergency, this space could be used for my eldest son, should his support be withdrawn and he need to return home to live.

The reason why I am asking for help is that in December 2016, I paid £3,500 to a local businessman for the roof. Month after month, reasons have been given as to why the roof has not been delivered. 6 weeks ago I was told the company he had paid had gone into liquidation but that he was going to honour our roof, finding funds to re order from another company. This is now over due and yesterday he agreed there is no roof coming. He said he will repay me but I sincerely suspect this will not happen.

I am desperate to get this roof on, there are many things to do beyond this but with the rain coming in we are unable to move things forward.

This space would be so superb to have up and running, for so many reasons, probably in more ways than we have imagined. I am asking for any small donation to help us finish this barn, it will be an incredibly useful space both locally and personally.

A update on New Barn. The best news, thanks to your help, one week ago we ordered another roof, it should be with us this time next month. With Storm Brian upon us, New Barn is receiving a battering but we reinforced the plastic covering the roof which has kept out the majority of the rain. I have been busy collecting & painting free timber ready to clad internally the moment we are dry. We hope to order the windows & doors very soon & when the wind gives us a break we will fit the glass in the gable end. Thank you. Cant wait to share photos

Sarah generously gave me Bowen treatments for free and then mates-rate for frozen shoulder pain and severely twisted ankle she's bloody brilliant at Bowen. She's generous and resilient. I love you!
