Story
Marianne's is a Community Café in the heart of Staines-Upon-Thames.
Marianne's was opened following a gift from a local lady, called Marianne Kewan, who after her death left money in her will to be used for vulnerable adults in Spelthorne and surrounding areas. We are extremely grateful to have received such a donation from her estate.
We have been open for 18 months and during this time have welcomed approximately 5000 people.
Our purpose is;
1 - We provide a professional Information and Welfare Benefits Advice service.
2 - We offer fantastic volunteering programs for individuals with the aim of building confidence, learning new skills, interacting with others and improving their opportunities.
3 - these services are housed in the friendly, welcoming and safe environment of our Café
Our very busy Welfare Benefits Advisor is in the café from 10am-4pm Monday –Friday, helping people from the surrounding areas, to sort out their welfare benefits. This includes form filling, queries, appeals, all welfare benefits, contacting the DWP, council tax issues, and food bank parcels.
Our volunteers most of which are from the local community, are often vulnerable and need support to volunteer, learn a new skill and build confidence. We have supported young adults with learning difficulties, adults with mental health problems, physical difficulties and also adults on the autistic spectrum. So far six of these have gone on to paid employment, additional volunteering and college training courses.
We have great fun working with and welcoming everyone that comes through our doors each week.
Marianne's will close its doors for the last time on Thursday 31st of October 2019 unless we can raise enough money to keep it open.
We need £50,000 to continue our work here in Marianne's – this is for us to run the café, mentor and support our amazing volunteers and provide a professional Information and Advice service.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and please donate.
