    Story

On 11th April, 2016 Cornwall Council were no longer able to fund the toilets on West Wharf, Mevagissey. During the first quarter of 2017 a meeting was called for local residents and businesses to decide the fate of the West Wharf Toilets...

...The decision was unanimous that the toilets must be kept open during the peak visitor months (April-end October). Keeping these toilets open incurs many running costs. Thankfully the community, Parish Council and local businesses have all come together to keep these facilities open. The aim is to keep West Wharf Toilets open for years to come from financial support which is raised in many different ways...

...3 of us have decided to sign up to run the Eden Half Marathon. We are:

Alan 55: I Moved to Mevagissey in 2016 in search of fish and a coastal lifestyle. I am recovering from cancer and the effects of Chemo and Radiotherapy. I enjoy running, walking and kayaking to keep fit and healthy; fishing and watching the footie with a cold one to relax. I am running for Mevagissey because I want to give back to this wonderful place and community who have made me feel so welcome.

Izzie: Originally from Poland, nearly 35 years old, proud mum of 2 little monsters Millie and Livy. I moved to Meva with the monsters and husband, Tim in March, 2016. We opened a small B&B The Old Parsonage and are currently living the dream in stunning Mevagissey. Love food, being by the sea and playing poker, reading and Prosecco! I have never run more than 7 miles in one go so a half marathon at the hilly Eden Project is a real challenge

Helen: 33 originally from South Devon. I moved to Mevagissey after 12 years in Bristol. I moved here with son Alfred and Husband Kris, we bought the freehold of The Kings Arms in 2014. Before December 2013, I could not run further than 1km. I have run a marathon before but that was on the flat. I have been warned that the Eden is hard and not to do it attempt it (the hills). These days I run between wine tastings, curating wine lists and actually enjoying wine with friends. To be able to run for the toilets, the community of Mevagissey and it's visitors is a great honour.

So, 3 people from 3 different parts of the world end up in Mevagissey and have come together and are running over 36 miles between them up and down hills in no doubtedly the wind and rain to hopefully raise some finds to keeping our West Wharf Loos open for a little bit longer. Please donate as little or as much as you can. xx

Thank you to all of you who have supported us. It is safe to say that all 4 of us have said we will NEVER run the Eden Half again. It was incredibly tough, but we did it! It is pretty tough keeping our toilets open and running too. So well done to all in the community of Meva who are doing a great job.
