Weʼve raised £982 to help build a hedgehog hospital for hedgehogs that are too small to hibernate

Funded on Wednesday, 14th December 2016

    Story

Not only are hedgehogs really, really cute, but they have been on earth, virtually unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs. Hedgehogs are seriously in decline in the UK for a number of reasons, but West Wales Hedgehog Rescue has been established to help arrest the decline in this beautiful corner of the world.

We have many fosterers for hedgehogs who need to put weight on before release, and this summer and autumn we have taken in, nurtured back to health and released 20 hogs that were in crisis. But with winter closing in fast we need to have a shed where hogs that need assistance over winter can be cared for. Hedgehogs that were born late in the year will not have had enough time to put on the weight they need to hibernate, and will not survive the winter.

We can build the shed we need at very little expense. We have someone who will do the concrete free of charge, someone has offered us the electrical cabling and we have a water supply, but we don’t have an actual shed, or very much time.

All assistance towards meeting our target is greatly appreciated, by us and I'm sure by the hedgehogs that are too small to hibernate, but will instead have a warm, dry place to wait out the winter before release in the spring.

    Many thanks.

Well, It is wonderful to be able to update all of our supporters with the news that we have met, and surpassed our target!! Our sincerest thanks go out to everybody who has donated. The hedgehogs of West Wales will have somewhere warm to settle if they are found in distress this winter. We just have to get it built first!! We are looking at sheds, and the builders are on standby. All systems go!!! Many thanks once again from all at West Wales Hedgehog Rescue.

We're three weeks in to our just giving campaign, and 70% of the way to our target. Huge gratitude goes out to everyone who has donated. Thankyou. Di is organising 'An evening with hedgehogs' at Cellan Hall on 25th November, and Irene has organised a lovely video invitation to the event from Iolo Williams which can be seen on our facebook page. Sadly Iolo won't be there himself, but please do come along for the evening to meet the team and some hedgehogs! Further details on the West Wales Hedgehog Rescue facebook group.

I had ment to donate a while ago, saw the target has been met, so thought I'd sneak in some extra for "finishing touches"! I think the work Di and the team around her do amazing stuff! X

I am donating instead of sending a friend a Birthday present, we have been sending each other Hedgehog related gifts for over 50 years and this year this is her gift from me.
