Story
Jack, Annabelle and Cameron are students at The Mendip School in Shepton Mallet and are looking to raise money to enable them to participate in The Wettest Classroom on Earth! The school teaches children with autism, speech and language and communication needs.
The Wettest Classroom project will be an inspirational journey on two sailing ships around the coast of Great Britain. The voyage takes place in July 2019 and the students will work as a part of a team to sail the ship, living and working on board for seven days and nights. This will be the experience of a lifetime and our students need your support to make it happen.
The students wrote a letter of application detailing why they should be selected for the journey. The applications were accepted and so they were invited to attend an assessment in Snowdonia. They participated in swimming, kayaking, orienteering, camping and paddle-boarding activities alongside other students from across the country. Jack, Annabelle and Cameron displayed a number of different skills across the week such as resilience, teamwork, social skills, determination and following instructions. They were then selected to join the final crew for a leg of the journey around Great Britain.
We believe that all our students are special and deserve a chance to be challenged and achieve more than anyone, including themselves thought possible.
