Story

We are a group of 13 midwives who range from age 23 to 55 years, very fit, quite fit and quite unfit, just under 5ft to 6ft tall but for all our differences we have a mutual goal of completing the Tough Mudder on Sunday 9th September at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire. We are fundraising for our HDU (high dependency room) within our delivery suite. Not all mums sail through pregnancy and birth and require additional support to recover, this may mean being cared for in the HDU, although we have the skills and medical equipment to provide this specialist care the room is not conducive to comfort for mums and their birth partners who may have extended stays. Many of the mums are bed bound or have limited mobility, so we have some plans to improve the environment and therefore the experience for them and their families. It depends very much on how much we raise but initial plans will be for alongside cots which enable babies to be cared for safely close to mums and maybe a sofa bed for partners. However, we will ask mums who have been cared for in our unit what would have improved their stay with us.

The fundraising is being done under the watchful eye of the local St. Helens and Knowsley Royal College of Midwives branch with 100% of donation going to this cause.

We have a techy guy helping us (one with the beard) setting up a twitter and blog page which we will add to this post once up and running so you can keep an eye on our progress.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and any donation you can make is fab.
