Story

On the 23rd June, 2018 ten keen cyclists from the Green Hammerton Cycling Club are putting their bodies on the line to cycle the Whitby 150 (150 miles and 11,887 ft of climbing) all in one day. We start in Green Hammerton and then head for Whitby. Fantastic scenery in the North Yorkshire Moors but also plenty of hills! After dipping the back wheels in the sea, we will head for home and have a celebratory drink or two in the Bay Horse in Green Hammerton.

The team are: Rob O'Connor, Mark O'Connor, Kevin Smith, Giles Councell, Tom Henry, Tom Polito, Nick Coad, Jim Wardle, Bryn Jones and Justyn Ashford.

We love cycling and wanted to raise money for three great causes:

There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. It is a cruel disease which slowly steals away a person from the inside. The Alzheimer's Society is committed to spending at least £150 million over the next decade on dementia research to improve care for people today and find a cure for tomorrow." www.alzheimers.org.uk

Tan's tribute fund (Justyn's sister) helps fund the fight against breast cancer. We raise money so that other people hopefully don't have to go through what Tanith did. https://inmemory.breastcancernow.org/tanith-butters

Green Hammerton Junior Football Club, recently started by Jim (one of the team) and attended by our kids. We want to support the new club by buying some footballs, training kit and equipment. From scratch, there is now over 20 budding young footballers training in the village every week.
