Whitehawk v Guernsey - Saturday March 28
Virtual Matchday! Live on Twitter @hawksfcofficial, @GuernseyFC and @Hawksultras
Whitehawk Football Club and Guernsey Football Club were due to play each other in a league match on Saturday, March 28 - it was going to be our annual Community Day. So instead, we thought we’d reach out, lighten the mood a bit, and play a ‘virtual' game, raising some much needed cash for two amazing causes at this very difficult time.
The Whitehawk Foodbank is struggling (like so many), to provide individuals and families with the basics, and with many low income (and now no-income) families within the Whitehawk area struggling to keep going, anything we can do to help them can only be a good thing right now…
Similarly, The Guernsey Mind Charity has been working with Guernsey Football Club for a while, and right now their role is pivotal, as they reach out to help huge numbers of people on the island that are dealing with the pressures of lockdown and uncertainty.
Football has always been there for communities, to support and entertain generations. Now is the time for football to give back, and help those that support them…
We’ve set up this justgiving page to help them: 50p, a pound, anything that you can spare, and we hope that we can keep you entertained from 2:30pm on Saturday.
Just follow the action as it’s played out on twitter, @hawksfcofficial and @GuernseyFC, and there'll be updates on the Whitehawk Instagram channel: whitehawkfc and on Facebook, @whitehawkfootballclub. Spread the word, and let's help two massively worthwhile causes…
We’ve pre & post match interviews lined up with the two gaffers, The Hawks’ Jude Macdonald, and The Green Lion’s Tony Vance, one or two very special surprises, and throughout the afternoon, and we’ll be posting pics from the Hawks visit to the Island in January, plus highlights of the their 2-1 Victory at Guernsey, courtesy of Guernsey TV.
Anything that you want to post, as we go through 90 minutes of this 'virtual classic', just send it to @hawksfcofficial with the hashtag #wearenonleague
Massive thank you to Mark Le Tissier, Nic Legg and the players, staff and fans of Guernsey Football Club for helping to put this together, and to the magnificent Hawk's fans, The Whitehawk Ultras, who came up with the idea to do something to help their local community…
So, get your pre-match gear on (send us a pic with #wearenonleague and we’ll say hello!), don't forget to let the world know, and let’s spend Saturday like we used to… Following the footie! COYH!!
