Story

The Welsh Hockey Umpires Association (WHUA) are raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance Service, and towards the development of young umpires and officials in Wales.

The Covid-19 pandemic has understandably forced the cancellation of the European Indoor Season, to which many of our members had received appointments, to various countries across Europe. The total distance due to be travelled by our umpires and officials to their appointments was 5,000 miles. Over the next 6 weeks, our national and international panel members will attempt to cover the same distance at home, by walking, running, cycling, swimming, you name it!

As well as keeping fit, we saw this as an ideal opportunity to help raise funds to support the incredible work of the Wales Air Ambulance, who rely entirely on donations to continue their work. This challenge will also support our work developing young umpires and officials across Wales, so that they might one day progress to the international stage. Our financial ability to do this has unfortunately taken a hit due to the pandemic, and so we are hoping this challenge will help us get back on track with this development work once Government restrictions begin to be eased.

All funds raised through this challenge will be split 50/50 between the Wales Air Ambulance and WHUA.
