I've raised £5000 to fund staff to attend Northern Cleft Foundation Camp in India 2019. We would also like to buy essential theatre equipment for the trip.

Story

I have just returned from Nagpur, India where 54 doctors, nurses and volunteers, with The Northern Cleft Foundation in conjunction with The Rotary Club of Nagpur surgically corrected cleft palate and lip deformities on 79 children and adults at Mure Hospital. As an experienced scrub nurse, I was responsible for an operating table, looking after the local student nurses. We taught them how to scrub, learn the instruments, counting and checking of the trays and how to assist the surgeon during surgery. As part of a scrub team, continually improving the process is paramount to us. Updating surgeon preference cards, minimising instruments on the trays and writing instrument check lists to help with teaching the students and helping the staff that clean all our trays for us, compiling emergency equipment and arranging our preparation trollies. The experience has been rewarding and very humbling. Some of our patients travelled up to 600km to attend the camp and parents placed their trust in complete strangers to help their children. The local staff allowed us to take over their theatres and were invaluable in allowing this camp to be a success.
