The early May bank holiday in 2020 will move from Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day which takes place on 8 May, and enable people to pay tribute to those who served in one of the most significant events in our country’s history. Due to the current situation with COVID 19 The Local Authority celebration has had to be cancelled.

Moving the May bank holiday to VE Day itself is a right and fitting tribute. It will ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to remember and honour our heroes of the Second World War and reflect on the sacrifices of a generation however these celebration will now take place in the homes of those wishing to mark this monumental day.
In response to this Wigan Armed Forces HQ will be holding a 24 hour celebration from 9am on Friday May 8th to 9am the following morning as a challeng to raise vital funds to support the boroughs Armed Forces Community at Molyneux House to enable us to continue the vital support we offer our community. You can expect to see see some amazing entertainment via social media with lots of guest slots from our amazing community partners.
