Story

WE ARE WILDCHILD

WildChild is on a mission to champion and provide opportunities for underrepresented and under appreciated writers and directors, creating waves of systemic change by breaking down barriers to help create a more inclusive and diverse arts industry. Through our bespoke schemes, we aim to cultivate the confidence of new writers and directors through mentorship, real industry experience, and connecting them to our supportive community, helping them secure and retain paid work in the industry.

WildChild Arts Organisation was founded in 2019 by established theatre-makers Christa Harris (director) and Oliver Lansley (writer of Amazon Prime television series Flack) after identifying a severe lack of social mobility for generations of underappreciated creatives.

What we do works! Since being founded, WildChild has seen 12 writers through our WriteWild scheme, launched WildVision directors scheme for 4 female directors, supported actors through drama school partnering with The LET Bursary, showcased industry event at The Park Theatre, London, created 44 freelance jobs, shot showreels, supported the creation of our WildVision directors short films and hosted networking events for creatives.

WILDCHILD SHOWCASE 2023

Over the last 12 months our WriteWild & WildVision schemes, supported by Tiger Aspect and Hat Trick productions, has provided 6 writers and 4 all female directors with bespoke mentorship, guest speaker sessions with industry icons, an ITV masterclass, resources, creative development sessions and opportunities to pitch their work to leaders within the world of T.V. and theatre. Our cohort were also provided with a day in the writers room, a full week of onset and post production experience shadowing the director of Tiger Aspect’s ‘Bad Education’.

These up and coming creatives, follow in the footsteps of the successful WriteWild 2021 which saw the writers win TV commissions and paid script development work, accept on prestigious schemes (BAFTA, Oxford Playmakers, BFI Flare, CBBC mentorship), sign to top literary agents and receive their first TV writing credits.

HOW THE SHOWCASE WORKS... For one night only our WriteWild writers write the scripts, our WildVision Directors bring these scripts to life with a talented and diverse cast of actors and we provide a platform to showcase all this hard work to industry giants to gain the recognition they deserve!

THESE VOICES NEED TO BE HEARD! Hand selected onto our schemes through our rigorous eligibility screening, our cohort’s voices come from disadvantaged and/or diverse backgrounds and the work they are creating is amazing. It’s bold, thought provoking and inspiring, telling stories that are yet to be told and we want to break down barriers into spaces they are yet to be welcomed into.

“We are delighted at Tiger Aspect to continue to support the fantastic work being done by WildChild. What they offer makes a real, tangible difference to those involved and I’m thrilled they are continuing their work supporting new voices.” - David Simpson, Head of Comedy, Tiger Aspect

“Wildchild offers talented young writers who might not normally be given the chance to learn their craft and bring different and diverse voices into their industries.” - Nicola Shindler, OBE , Executive Producer, Quay Street Productions
