Having recently completed the Edinburgh Half Marathon together, we (Adam and Gavin Wilkinson) are now running the Yorkshire Marathon on 8th October in York.

We talked about raising some funds for a charity and having lost a friend to suicide fairly recently, and also attending Andy's Man Club's first birthday celebration and hearing from many individuals they had helped, we decided we wanted to raise a bit of money for them.

Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the United Kingdom, and according to statistics compiled by Samaritans in a 2016 report looking at data up until 2014, it's happening at a rate of up to four times higher than among women.

The most likely thing to prematurely end the life of a young man in this country is himself, a statistic Andy's Man Club has been set up to directly confront.

Andy's Man Club was started in Halifax and set up by Luke Ambler. It is a talking group, a place for men to come together in a safe environment to talk about issues/problems they have faced or are currently facing. The benefit is there are other men who have been in similar situations and can help with advice on how they have dealt with the situation.

There are now many Andy's Man Club groups in other towns. It has gained nationwide recognition for its success in the one year that it has existed.
