Story
In July 2023, the Sunday league football teams from the Isle of Axholme are hoping to use football as a way to raise not only money but also awareness for men’s mental health in memory of Saxon Foster who tragically took his life in April this year. The loss of Saxon had an impact on many lives, it is clear to see how much he was loved and adored by all his friends and family which is why it is so heart-breaking that something like this could ever happen. Through football, a sport Saxon enjoyed, the aims are to bring everyone together within our local community to celebrate his life as it shouldn't and will never be forgotten as well as highlight the importance to other men of all ages who may be suffering in silence that it is okay to not be okay and help is always available to try prevent something as devastating as this repeating itself.
The plan is to bring back the well-known and locally famous ‘Isle Cup’ with six Isle based football clubs all participating and playing against each other in tournament format throughout the month to try and win the trophy. All six teams have kindly agreed to help start the fundraising process by paying an entry fee to the competition as well as donating any money raised from matchdays with things such as subs raised from players and other fundraising activities.
We are hoping that together, we can raise enough money to buy a memorial bench in Saxon’s honour with the location of the bench to be confirmed in due course. Any additional money raised will be donated to the men’s mental health charity ‘MANUP?’ who specialise in raising awareness and changing people's attitudes, opinions, and minds about male mental health. Their goal is not to give advice, but rather to highlight what others have done to overcome mental health issues as well as working with businesses, schools, various charities, and mental health services to help break the stigma that is associated with male mental health and essentially rebrand that awful phrase they are named after.
Although the football clubs as mentioned are actively doing their bit to raise the money required, support is still needed and any additional donations would be massively appreciated in helping us achieve our goal which is the reason why this fundraising page has been created.
