Story
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 👏👏
We have been astonished and overwhelmed by the generosity of our players, members, supporters & friends in the appeal to assist with the funding of our new Grandstand: To reach our initial target in just 8 days has exceeded all our expectations!
We are however aware there are followers who know of the appeal and intend donating but have yet to do so, and also that news of our appeal has yet to reach some people. We are therefore keeping our JustGiving page open and have taken the liberty of raising our target so everyone who would like to help us has the chance to contribute.
There are other necessary works we need to undertake which we were intending to carry out during this summer but due to loss of income as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions these were going to be put on hold until the Club is able to re-open fully and generate revenue again.
Any additional donations received above our initial £4000 target will enable us to undertake some of these works during this summer.
The works needed include top-dressing the pitch with sand to enable better drainage, electrical upgrade works to the clubhouse, further works to the changing rooms and renewal of some of our ball-stop netting.
Please continue to share the JustGiving link with your friends and contacts and pass word of our appeal to those WRFC supporters and friends that you know who are not social media active but who you think may wish to help us.
Everyone at WRFC would thank you all most sincerely for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming you all into the Club, hopefully later this year, to celebrate the opening of our new Grandstand
To remind you, our original STORY was:
Willand Rovers Football Club has unwittingly become the victim of its own success!
After winning promotion to Southern Football League (SFL) in 2019 it has been necessary for the Club to upgrade its facilities to comply with the minimum standards required by the SFL. If these works are not completed in line with SFL deadline dates then we run the risk of being expelled from the League
Much of this work has been completed, being funded in the main by the Club and by grant assistance kindly given by the Devon FA and our local Devon County Councillor.
The most significant investment we are having to make though is for a new 75-seat grandstand, which is to be constructed during the Summer of 2020. This project is being part-funded by a grant from the Football Association with the remainder due to be paid for by the Club.
Our business plan at the start of the season, was for the grandstand works funding shortfall to be covered by income from all home matches and a busy Winter, Spring and Summer schedule of events and parties being held at the Club.
However, since mid-March this has been thrown into disarray with the Government imposition of the Covid-19 restrictions and the closure of all venues such as sports clubs. Eight home matches have been lost and no events held at our Club since early-March.
With the current “lockdown” in place, we are in a situation where all our revenue streams have been cut and our income is nil. This looks set to continue for some time!
It is therefore with some reluctance that we are appealing to the generosity of our members, supporters, followers and even the wider Willand and general football families to assist us in meeting the funding shortfall for our grandstand project.
Willand Rovers Football Club would sincerely thank you for taking the time to view our page and for your donation.
We look forward to welcoming you into the Club in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

4 years agoGreat news! Our new grandstand was delivered and erected on 24 July. All at WRFC would sincerely thank everyone that has donated to our appeal, especially in the financially challenging times we've all endured over the past few months. All we want to do now is get back to playing football and to welcoming you all back into the Club. Hopefully see you all very soon. Best regards Mike Hawkins

4 years agoWorks for our new grandstand are progressing well. The concrete base slab has been cast and the actual grandstand structure is now being fabricated. We expect the new stand to be erected at Silver Street at the end of July. Thank you to everyone that has supported us and for all the kind words we have received. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the club in the near future to celebrate the "opening" of our new stand.
