Story
Nourish Hope in Misahualli
The Methodist Church is the oldest in the town of Mishualli, founded around 40 years ago. The school lunch programme began in 2023 in response to the need in the community, as part of the church’s commitment to fighting malnutrition, hunger and providing a welcoming space for students while the wait for transport home to rural villages in the Ecuador Amazon.

On average, every Monday and Wednesday, between 60-80 children and young people come and enjoy a hot meal. It cost around £200-250 per month to sustain this program, which runs from September through June in accordance with the school calendar.

Building of the new church in Ongota church plant will start, DV, in Summar 2026. When the building is completed, if funds are available, it is hoped to start a similar Lunch Programme in this community too.

The plight of malnourished children has always been close to my heart. Hearing the stories of Melissa Newell and her team, who serve tirelessly with compassion, dignity, and love has been deeply humbling. Their work has uplifted countless children and families, and I want to play a small part in supporting their mission. To help raise funds, I will be running the Kerry Way Ultramarathon (Kerry Way Ultra – Kerry Way Ultra) in Ireland on 4–5th September (entirely self funded). It’s a demanding challenge, but nothing compared to the daily struggles many children face.

In Matthew 25:35-36, Jesus says, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.."
