    Story

We would like to provide new wipe clean books and activities for Children attending & staying at Harrogate District Hospital to be able to use. We have said £100 but the more we get the more we can fill all of the departments that children attend and in addition enough to have floating about for busy days and for some to be away for cleaning!

Our son William is now 8 years old and has a diagnosis of Arthritis, Enthesitis, Autism and an Arachnoid Cyst. We would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the medical team at Harrogate District Hospital for their amazing, consistent, warmhearted and ongoing care that William has received and still is!

We have noticed on our recent visits during this Covid pandemic the majority or toys and books have had to be taken out of the children's waiting room and hospital ward. This is understandably to comply with Covid hygiene regulations. We would like your help to be able to raise funds to provide wipe clean books and activities. There are children attending their first appointments, many with more complex needs than William, however, regardless of their diagnosis all children need distractions, if anything to also comfort their worried parents & carers.

William has regular tests and assessments, from bloods to MRIs and is on a complex set of medication. We have spent many hours at the hospital, including eye, tonsil and adenoid surgery. Therefore, it is fair to say we have seen many departments. Everyone has been so supportive, taken the time to explain the process and even stay on during their lunch to support William during a tough appointment.

I am an Usborne Consultant and know how I can help. I am able to purchase resources for the Pediatrics Outpatients, Woodlands Ward and the Specialist Child Development Centre that in checking with the hospital and their Infection, Prevention and Control Team will be compliant. I can purchase these at less than the R.R.P.

With your help with small donations put together we can purchase lots of books, activities and more to keep children entertained and distracted during a tough time! With the host benefits and donating any commission back into more book orders to ensure we can absolutely fill these departments with fabulous fun for the children! The books will be for all ages!

We have been in touch with the hospital and they would very much welcome these donations. We will ensure if we are successful you see pictures of any purchased books from Sarah Jane's Book Corner.
