    Story

    Sensory Room(s)

The main reason I'm looking to raise money is to help William (Wills) he's a little boy who's going to be 4 next month (June 2018) but has a mental age of between 8-14 months depending on what areas he's being assessed on, his mother Zoe is a single, working parent who also has another little boy Edward (Ted) who is currently 2 years old and has a few special requirements too!

    Wills

Wills has autistic spectrum disorder with speech delay, global development delay, sensory seeking and pica.

Which in a nutshell means he pretty much needs constant supervision for his own safety and others when around him, He has no sense of danger and due to his sensory seeking needs he bites a lot and puts potentially dangerous objects in his mouth, this could also be due to the PICA which is a type of eating disorder where you eat/swallow items not made for consumption.

Zoe is unable to take both Wills and Ted to the playground together unless accompanied by another adult, due to Wills not understanding danger, He will (and does) just run off, straight in front of swings etc... meaning Zoe would have to abandon Ted to try and save Wills from danger.

    Zoe

Zoe is a single working parent with 2 children (Wills and Ted) who has worked for the same company for the last 16 years, luckily she has a very understanding boss who has let her reduce down to 20 hours, given her flexi time and allows her to work from home when she needs to. Zoe rents her home and provides for everything Wills and Ted need!

    Ted

Ted is your typical cute 2 year old who is nearly always happy, but when Wills is upset this upsets him too, Ted has his own special needs which require Zoe to be on the ball 24/7 too, he is allergic to Cows MIlk, Soya, Almonds and Oranges which can be controlled at home quite easily (but tends to cost much more for specialist foods) but when outside danger could be as simple as someone sharing a biscuit with him!

    Sensory Room(S)

These things aren't cheap, first of all there is no room inside the house to create a dedicated sensory room, although certain items could be installed in Wills bedroom/living room to help him sleep/relax etc... So I was hoping to create one in their back garden, this would need some sort of shed/play house/summer house big enough for both Wills and Ted and be versatile enough to cope with future needs.

We'd need to pay a builder to do the base to put the structure on, and also an electrician as a lot of the sensory items are some form of lighting, then there would need to be insulation to keep it warm, wall and floor padding to make it safe and items such as a ball pool, soft play items and textured items.

    Snoezelen Sensory Rooms

As you can image these things cost a small fortune and after doing some research I believe a basic but life changing sensory room can be set up for about £5000, any less and we'd have to lose certain items, any more and bigger/better equipment can be purchased, so first of all if you've got this far thank you for reading and sorry for waffling on, if you're able to donate and wish to change the lives of three people then THANK YOU, honestly anything will help, if you're unable to help financially then can I ask you share this on social media? That in it's self could make the difference between creating a sensory room and not.

    Thanks again

Zoe is a really good friend of mine, I see her struggle day to day looking after and providing for Wills and Ted, so I thought I'd see if I could make a difference with some help from you!
