Story
Will is almost 11 now and has cerebral palsy. We fundraised for him to have Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery in 2013. The result of this is that he has learned to be much more independent. He walks with sticks pretty much all the time and is getting more confident by the day.
As we have spent the last 4+ years encouraging him to walk everywhere, he has spent very little time in his wheelchair, and doesnt have the stamina needed to push himself long distances.
We are now at a weird sort of stalemate situation where he cant walk fast enough to keep up with daily life, nor can he walk far enough. Similarly with his wheelchair, he cant push himself very far, meaning we have to do it for him.
We have decided to start fundraising again for a Batec Mini Electric wheelchair attachment. Its like a motor that fits the front of his wheelchair, making it like a trike. The battery lasts 20 miles before needing a recharge, meaning he can join in on days out, keep up with his sister Amber on her bike, walk the dogs amd keep up with his friends. Living in North Wales, its quite hilly, this will be the freedom he needs now, especially starting high school in September.
I know we've asked for help before for his SDR surgery, but if you can spare anything at all, we would really appreciate it. We will be doing all sorts of different fundraising, starting with me, Michaela (Will's Mum) running the Tunnel10k race on sunday 15th April.
Thank you so much!
Will, Michaela and James (and Amber, and Dave, and everyone else around us who will get to see the benefit of Will's freedom!)
