Story

Calling all Windjammer Landing visitors and owners! ****AND anyone who would like to help the St Lucia feral cat problem**** Please help prevent the over-population of cats at this lovely resort. If we do it, other resorts may copy and eventually the whole island will be a better place.

Like so many resorts in St Lucia, Windjammer Landing has a large number of uninvited feral/stray cat residents. The more of these cats that get removed, the more come in from outside the resort. And they all keep having kittens - they can’t help it!! They are over-populating the island. They have miserable lives - many kittens dying from disease and malnourishment. The only humane way to stop the feral cat population from continually increasing is to neuter them. SLAPS and Helpaws do a great job of offering free neutering of strays outside resorts. We need to tackle the resorts too. See also: http://thevoiceslu.com/2015/10/400-dogs-cats-neutered-and-spayed/

Windjammer Landing Resort, and local animal charity SLAPS are joining forces to conduct a Trap -Neuter- Release programme in summer 2018. We aim to treat around 30 cats which will then stay at Windjammer in healthier conditions. Their job will then be to guard the territory and keep new cats away. I am one of the time share owners and I am donating one of my weeks as vet accomodation. I am trying to raise the funds for the materials and medicine. The traps can be re-used for another session.

Cost breakdown: US$1,000 for the traps and US$1,500 for medical supplies. This is calculated by Helpaws who did a similar programme at Anse Chastanet. (See Helpaws.com and their Facebook page).

I hope especially that those who have enjoyed Windjammer may be willing to help make the resort an even better place for all residents!

If we don’t reach our target funding we will use the funds raised to do as much as we can to improve the feral cat situation at Windjammer: fewer neuters, vet inspections, medication, whatever the vets and Helpaws and Windjammer agree is best. You will be kept imformed here and also by Windjammer.
