Story

In March of this year, Upper 6th students Taras and Ava, as well as Mrs Barrett’s husband Noel (with some persuasion) and other members of the school community will be running the Hampton Court Half Marathon on the 23rd of March 2025. Windsors and Garnetts teams will run to support their house charity, The Felsted Mission. Our aim with this event is to raise £1,500 for this incredible charity.

More about the charity:

Founded over 100 years ago, the Felsted Mission, Ascension Church and Community Centre provides a nightshelter, free lunches and activities for children and the elderly. Felsted pupils visit regularly and raise funds in support of their activities.

Every Tuesday & Thursday, a lunch is held for elderly members of the community. For some participants, this is their only chance to get out and about! The lunches are a lifeline for those who enjoy good food and conversation.

The Ascension Church works with the local community through a Garden Cafe and youth activities, promoting fitness and social interaction. This now extends to the Royal Docks Academy, where one 100% bursary is offered to a pupil each year to attend Felsted School. Funded mainly by Old Felstedians and current students, the Felsted School Mission contributes some £40,000 per year to the Ascension. This goes towards helping to offer activities for the community. The resources we provide employ a youth worker, fund the football academy, contribute to the nightshelter and provide equipment for the youth club.

More about Ava and Taras:

Hi, I'm Taras I am a part of Windsors Ironsides (house prefect) team. I am really looking forward to completing this challenge as I strive to push myself to the limits! I have loved sport since first taking to the slopes at the age of 5, then later competing in the international races as well as Ukrainian championship. Therefore, if I can raise money doing something I love, to benefit others its something we should all do.

Hi, I'm Ava I am also part of Garnetts house team. I am also really looking forward to participating in the challenge. Through training I have found that being mentally strong is just as vital as being physically strong. Perseverance is key to making it over that finish line!

Any donations would be greaty appreciated, a little bit can a long way !
