    Story

On the 12th September, Anne Dalton and I will be wing-walking at the commencement of the Jersey International Air Display, St Aubin's Bay, Jersey, Channel Islands. Help us to honour the past, the present and the future by giving whatever you can to these two very worthy causes.

We will be wing-walking on two 1940s Boeing Stearman biplanes operated by the internationally renowned Aerosuperbatics team. This is a daunting engagement for both of us and a real challenge. As the day draws closer and we continue to quell our nerves, while appearing as cool as cucumbers to the outside world, we ask that you would take a little time to think about these two fine charities that work tirelessly 24/7 in order to ensure that the resources, help and understanding are there when they are needed. Both RAFA and the Aspire Charitable Trust that runs the Beresford Street Kitchen provide a safety net and springboard for people who find themselves, through no fault of their own, facing circumstances that would deeply challenge the most able among us. These charities do their utmost to make sure no-one is forgotten.

The Beresford Street Kitchen is a social enterprise that provides quality education, training and employment opportunities to people with learning disabilities and autism. Click their name above to read more. It is an inspiring read. Here is what your donations will help to fund: "Since opening our doors in 2017 we have gone from employing 8 crew members to 45, but we still have another 40 on our waiting list who we are desperate to offer employment to. £1500 would sponsor a trainee for a year and £5000 would sponsor an apprentice. £25,000 would provide specialist support for our crew for a year." This small but vital charity gives meaning and intention to young people by providing them with an environment in which they can learn, flourish and grow in confidence.

At RFC Rendcomb in Gloucestershire last month having a climb around and a chat with Gemma (one of this year’s intrepid wing-walking team) about the display. Next time we do this will be in Jersey getting ready to taxi out on to the runway at the airport prior to take off!

The Royal Air Forces Association needs less introduction, but please click on their name to see the extent of their good works. In their own words “We believe every generation owes a debt of gratitude to the RAF and their families. To protect the peace and safety we enjoy every day, they sacrifice the normal way of life most people take for granted.” Both Anne and I are from families with serving military personnel and really understand the truth and power of this statement.

Help us to show them how much we care, how much they count and what we are willing to do to make them feel valued. Anne and I know what we are willing to do. Please join us in our determination to help change lives for the better.

A vast amount of work goes in to organising an air display such as the Jersey International Airshow. Don’t forget to watch out for updates in the lead up to the big day!

Well, Anne and I wing-walked yesterday - which was an extraordinary experience! We undoubtedly had the best views of the day and ones that will remain with us. Here is some proof that we did it!

Well done! Although I’m sure you were advised before hand that one should never leave the cockpit in the air unless there is no other option. I’m not sure this counts! Superb effort by both.
