    Wiseton CC: Roof Fundraising Campaign

Can you help us raise money to complete our roof refurbishment before winter?

Early in 2020, the committee, players and local volunteers set about refurbishing our clubhouse. Little did we know, as we set out our plans in January, just what a year we were all about to have.

Our plans included an ambitious clubhouse refurbishment, aiming to make Wiseton the best possible venue for village cricket that we could.

We had to start with demolishing a troublesome canopy. Clearly a water issue had caused an amount of rot and in the prior year, the structure was supported with metal poles.

To the rescue came Chris Fielding of the highly acclaimed South Yorkshire Timber Framing, well known for their distinctive framing works on swimming pools, stables, garages and the like. Thankfully Chris is a regular at the Chairman’s pub, the Blue Bell. Once we had him full of ale, we described our needs and dropped the bombshell over the budget, nil pounds. Despite this, he agreed to support the club to our great appreciation.

In February, with Covid not yet the headline news, the club set about a series of volunteer refurbishment days. South Yorkshire Timber Framing led the external work demolishing the existing troublesome canopy structure and building our new high quality frame. Having put the frame in place, we knew we needed a roofer to complete the job.

This is when the rest of the world imploded around us all as the country went into lockdown. Cricket seemed off for the year and all our own pre-season plans were thrown into turmoil. This included the plans to collect membership fees and sponsorship which had a very big financial impact. As the first wave of Covid subsided and some cricket resumed,we set reduced match fees and charged no membership, encouraging a large amount of new players. The enthusiasm at Wiseton CC has been fantastic but like all small sports clubs, it has been a challenging year.

However, the roof needs completing and is becoming a more urgent matter. With winter on the way, we are conscious that we need to make good the few broken slates on the main roof and then roof and gutter the new structure. This is part of a bigger plan for 2021 where we hope to return to a more normal season. We want a refurbished clubhouse, new kit and increased cricketing opportunities for our enthusiastic squad.

We are asking players, family members, friends, supporters and anyone that can to make a small donation to Wiseton CC through this fundraising page. We are targeting £500 as a minimum which will ensure the most essential if not all the work is completed. If we can raise more, we can ensure the whole job is done. We are asking players who have not paid a membership fee to consider making a donation on this page of whatever you can afford.

We aim to have the best cricketing experience possible at Wiseton Hall, any support is greatly appreciated.

Whether can donate or share with someone who might, we are appreciative for the support. You are helping us make Wiseton CC one of the best village cricket venues in the league for 2021.
